Abstract

This article analyzes the positions of the Communist Party of Argentina (PC), the Revolutionary Workers Party (PRT), the Socialist Workers Party (PST), the Revolutionary Communist Party (PCR) and Workers’ Politics (PO), five organizations of the Argentine Left, in relation to the Yom Kippur/Ramadan War. The text presents a contextualization of these organizations, their links with the Arab and Jewish communities of Argentina, as well as their international connections within the framework of the USA-USSR dé-tente. Their different stances are assessed as they appear in their periodicals, pamphlets, and in testimonies of political leaders and activists. All these organizations supported the Arab side during the conflict, although the PRT and the PCR did not pay detailed attention to it. The PC, the PST and PO, on the contrary, showed considerable interest, with some new elaborations, particularly in the case of the PST, which began to call for the destruction of the state of Israel. PO, which had already adopted this slogan in 1967, added to it the slogan calling for the destruction of Jordan. The PC continued to defend the existence of Israel, although they began to favor their links with Arab organizations in their international networks. The article also analyzes the use of certain elements typical of the antisemitic discourse in the debate between the organizations of the Left and in their publications.
