Focus and Scope

Estudios Interdisciplinarios de América Latina y el Caribe (EIAL) is Tel Aviv University’s peer-reviewed journal for Latin American and Caribbean studies. Founded in 1990 by Professor Tzvi Medin — a pioneer of Latin American studies in Israel — EIAL has served as a leading platform for original research on the history and culture of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is currently co-edited by Dr. Nahuel Ribke (Open University of Israel) and Dr. Ori Preuss (Tel Aviv University). As a trilingual journal, we publish high-quality original research in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. Submissions are welcomed from scholars around the world.

Reflecting its interdisciplinary vision, EIAL welcomes contributions from a broad range of fields within the humanities and social sciences, including history, literature, sociology, linguistics, art, art history, media and communication studies, cultural studies, and related disciplines. The journal is dedicated to fostering and disseminating innovative research that contributes to the global development of Latin American and Caribbean studies.

EIAL publishes two issues per year, in January and July. Most issues include a thematic dossier — coordinated by a guest editor — alongside stand-alone research articles. The dossier format enables in-depth exploration of a particular topic, while stand-alone articles deal with a wide range of subjects within Latin American and Caribbean studies.

We seek original research articles that explore local, regional, and international dimensions of Latin America and the Caribbean. We welcome manuscripts that focus on a specific country or community within Latin America, as well as studies that examine transnational, intra-regional, or international relations involving Latin American and Caribbean actors.

In addition to research articles, EIAL publishes book reviews of recently published titles (no older than three years) relevant to the field of Latin American and Caribbean studies. The selection of books for review is made by the editorial team, and prospective reviewers are invited directly by the journal. We encourage authors and publishers to send copies of newly released books for review consideration. We are especially committed to highlighting works published in Spanish and Portuguese, which often receive less visibility in international academic platforms.
