Resumen
In Nicaragua, approximately 30% ofthe combatants in the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN)were women. In El Salvador, women made up 40% of the membership ofthe Farabundo Martí Liberation Front (FMLN), 30% of thecombatants, and 20% of the military leaders. In Chiapas, women wereabout one-third of the combatants of the Zapatista NationalLiberation Army (EZLN). The significant participation of women inthese important revolutionary movements presents a fundamentalchallenge to stereotypical ideas about women in Latin America.Copyright © 2012-2013 Estudios Interdisciplinarios de América Latina y el Caribe.
